Re: Albin: A clarification.

I made the statement to the effect that all of the current Albin
was illegally obtained. I have sinced learned a seperate mass was
purchased legally. I have spoken to Blaine Reed, and he described how
the mass was obtained. It was all legal, and nobody has a illegal piece
of Albin.
I was refering to two masses brought to our attention in the
early 1980's which were obtained from "grazing land managed by the BLM.
These masses were 12 and 20lbs respectivly. I unfortunatly made a bad
assumption in what I said, and must apologize to all hurt by my comments.
It is rather difficult to get the truth if nobody talks. I have
discovered that meteorite dealers have a hand everywhere these days, and
rightfully so. I just wish that someone would let an institution in on
the secret, so they can feel confident they know what is happening in
their jurisdiction.
My ignorance is in innocence. I took all information I had, and
used it to what I percieved to be the truth. It appears to me, that
one should have as many contacts as possible in the meteorite commiunity,
as you may never know what could be right, or wrong.
So again I say sorry to those offended. I in no way was pointing
a finger at anyone, but still I did. As for looking for the two other
masses, I will leave that to someone else, as I have no desire to pursue
it. I prefer to work on future meteorite preservation, and try to build a
good relationship between science and the collector.

Sincerly,

Frank Stroik
