I find myself ocasionally "compelled" to remind people on the list that
there is, indeed, one, and only one, "censor" - who "dictates" what the
nature of the newsletter is and shall be. His name is Art Jones. He
"owns & operates" Meteorite Central.
He has CLEARLY stated on more than one occasion that the newsletter is
for any and all meteoriteophiles and for ANY AND ALL topics related to
meteorites.
IN ADDITION, he has made it clear he would, whenever possible, allow
the members to be "self regulating." When it comes to one or two or more
engaging in "heated" discussions that degenerate into "children not
playing nice" (Translation: personal insults, name calling and worse),
on one occasion he has stepped in and INSISTED those so engaged restrict
it to their personal email communications with one another and off the
newsletter, or suffer possible removal from the list.
Art has ALWAYS practiced the upmost restraint allowing the most
possible freedom in discussions. To SOME degree, the "list" is "self
regulating," in that if no one responds to a given topic, one is
unlikely to continue submitting postings on same topic. Furthermore,
when two or more "characters" step over the line of reasonable
"discussion," feedback starts comming in fairly heavily letting them
know the others do not care to hear any more squabbling.
The bottom line is, we all owe a great debt of gratitude to Art - first
for PROVIDING this forum and second, for allowing the greatest amount of
freedom within reason.
