Re: Happy Canyon and Mount Egerton

Hello Bernd and List,

In the paper you mention by Casanova et al. the authors talk about the
siderophile abundance as it relates to the highly reduced aubrites. They
make calculations using the metal and silicate fractions of Mt. Egerton
and Mayo Belwa, and say the following:

"Although Mt. Egerton is not strictly speaking an aubrite (some authors
have considered it as an anomalous mesosiderite, due to its high metal
content), the use of this procedure is, in principle, justified by its
igneous, unbrecciated natute, and similarity in composition to aubrites
[highly reduced silicates, Si in solid solution in the metal, identical
oxygen isotope signature."

Not exactly a reclassification here, but close.

David
