Re: Palca de Aparzo

Hello Bernd, Gregory & List,

The so called "Patagonian Eucrite", according to Darryl Pitt, fell
sometime in the winter of 1985 (summer in Argentina), and was recovered
by a mountain climber on a very remote and steep summit. This mountain
climber witnessed the fireball, and shortly after accordiing to the story
was nearly blown off a rock face that he was at the time climbing. Upon
reaching a rocky ledge stones were falling and he recovered one, with a
weight of about 1,490 grams, one side of it was broken on impact.

Darryl sent me a cut fragment of about 42 grams and I can tell you it
is no L-5. There is even a small trace of greenish glossy fusion crust
on one edge and the interior is almost chalk white with some pale yellow
crystals scattered throughout.

There is no way that it could be an L-5.

Perhaps Darryl, who I am forwarding this to could tell us more.
