Julien and All,
Actually, this verbal ping pong match with Mr. Casper on one side of the
table and everyone else on the other is very pertinent to this list. In
order for the collecting community to be informed about what's really
happening in Tucson, the truth must be stated. Like Jim Strope and Mike
Farmer, I have spent a lot of time visiting the other meteorite dealers and
collectors. After spending 7 of the past 11 days in Tucson (Good fortune
places my home just 100 miles north) I can assure you that the meteorite
market is alive and well. Albeit, alive and well doesn't mean it is static
and without change.

For those of you who don't know what to believe about prices in Tucson,
simply go back several days and read Mr. Casper's posts. Remember the
one stating that the new lunar (Farmer/Strope) was selling for $350/g?
Poppycock or poppin' pills - call it what you like, it simply isn't
true. If you want the truth, at least listen to those that were actually
there.

With the increasing amount of new lunar and martin material entering the
market, prices are adjusting and trying to find a place to
settle. Surprisingly, none of the "new baby" of the show ( the new
"Farmer/Strope" lunar) was offered openly although there was a lot of
demand for it. The owners of this meteorite are keeping their cards close
to their vests. It appears they have learned a valuable lesson after
watching the blunders of last year. The tone of the show is "what's new?"
while those meteorites that basked in the lime light last year are "old news".

It was evident at this years show that historic meteorites and witnessed
falls are holding their own. It appears that quality over quantity is
becoming the standard.

Were there good deals to be found in Tucson? Absolutely. This is one of
the reasons we all make the pilgramage
