A very good friend of mine just picked up a very old knife from the island of
Java. It is a wedding knife...at least 200 years old possibly older. It is a
damascus blade that is said to be made from meteorite iron and or nickel. The
dealer is fairly reputable and said that the islanders used meteorite
material as there are no other sources of natural metal materials on the
island.

Whether or not the material is actually meteorite does not take away from the
knifes elegance. It is a work of art that is a treasure for sure no matter
what it is made of.

However we would like to know if anyone on the list can shed more light on
the knife making practices on the island of Java.

Also and more important does anyone have any suggestions on where he can have
the knife tested in Arizona, by someone that will know about this kind of
material? And is it possible to use Non-Destructive testing? If a sample
would be necessary how much is needed?

We appreciate any input that anyone has and thank you in advance for your
time...
