Yes, Sara at the NHM told me earlier that they sent a PhD student to the
crater, but when they dug it up it was empty and was probably caused by a
short circuit in a buried electrical cable.
A power cable in our back garden blew up a few years ago and made quite an
impressive hole in the ground, despite the earth being frozen solid.
