Here's an article about the NTSB ruling on the crash
of TWA Flight 800:

The evidence points to an electrical short as the cause
of the crash. Wiring bundled inside the fuel tank
included low voltage and high voltage wires, and they've
determined that a spark as weak as static electricity
could have triggered the explosion.

Other possible causes of the explosion were also
considered, including a meteorite strike, a small
explosive charge, and a missile.
