Greetings all

In regards to the thin layers that are readily attracted to a magnet. It is
in fact, magnetite, and no, it doesn't oxidize to "rust" as it is already an
oxide [ (Fe,Mg)Fe2O4 ]and no a reduced element which is what iron is before
it oxidizes and leaves a reddish-brown stain in the rocks.
I hope this helps clear up things.
