Hello all,

I have a R-chondrite (NWA 753) part slice that has a very thin coating of
iron-stained caliche around its edge. A small area of this edge is original
fusion crust which doesn't seem too common on pieces of this find. If a
portion of original crust were not present, I'd leave the piece as is, but
I'd like to remove the caliche to expose the crust if it wouldn't damage the
specimen. Any ideas or should I leave it alone?

I had thought about using small amounts of vinegar or a very dilute acid
with a small, soft brush and immediately rinsing it thoroughly with alcohol
and drying. Didn't want to try anything though, before checking with the
experts. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Frank
