Hello Tom , I would have to say it is probably just slag of some sort
with a piece of metal inside, I recently found something that looked similar
with my metal detector, It turned out to be slag with a piece of a chain
inside. The it wasn't there yesterday means nothing As I have found
many things in my yard that weren't there the day before.
  Probably kids playing throwing rocks and stuff at each other or something
else. This is a Meteorwrong , I believe you are correct !!!
