Hi Jim and all,
Jim, I want to make it clear to you that this message is not aimed
at you but rather it is addressed to all of us tempted to be critical of
our fellow list members. We all must be patient with one another, as
our interests vary a good deal. We have an interest in meteorites in
common, but we "come from" different places with it - some from
astronomy, some from a geological framework, some from a mystical
orientation, some with a playfulness, some with serious scientific
focus, etc.
I was sorry to read your response regarding this matter. While it is not
necessarily "my cup of tea ," again, I am astonished at the lack of
tolerance on the part of many of the list members.
This list is VERY eclectic. That means that some of the posts are going
to address a variety of elements in which any one of us will have little or
no interest. I delete - or simply do not open - probably 40% or more of
the posts to this list.
For instance, I KNOW many on the list are interested in astronomy.
My interest in astronomy is minimal - sometimes non-existant. The same
with the majority of Ron Balke's posts - yet clearly MANY list members
consider his posts "the heart" of the list... and, on occasion, I see one or
two I consider invaluable, so, I always read his Subject box comments.
I could go on. the point is, we are an eclectic group and, therefore, must
allow for the interests and enjoyment of other list members, however far
it may stray from our own interests. (as long, of course, as they do not
involve attacking and or obscene criticism of others).
While I have read only a few of the contest responses, they are
evidently "fun" for those involved. I stopped reading them mainly
because I did not find them funny - which I considered the only
element of the contest of interest to me. (in stopping, I may have
missed some posts that WERE funny, but that's the "risk" I took in
the name of expedience) While reading 3 or 4 was plenty for me, clearly,
numerous members have enjoyed this harmless banter.
The delete key is a wonderful thing - or, like I, one can just not open
any of the postings with a subject box title not addressing one's
interests. It is obviously of interest to somebody, so, leave it for them.
    Best wishes, Michael
