You need to do a bit of homework.

USGS has mapped every part of the US.

Including your "mystery site."

I think if you go to a local hiking shop, or surplus
store that sells geological maps you will find the
spot with the terrain very clearly marked.

I will bet that there are even satalite photos of the
area in question.
