[meteorite-list] rough/"bubbly" fusion crust?

Looks like a nice oriented piece which explains the frothing at the back.
Looks like the top (rounded) side of the stone may have been exposed to the
elements with a sand-blown surface. If you have a look on the back (flat
side) there are some larger 'crater' like shapes which can be typical of an
oriented piece. Sometimes 'bubbles' will form in the crust during ablation
and will pop leaving these features as well as the rougher/smaller 'bubbly'
surface you mention. Nice piece!

Cheers,

Jeff

Subject: [meteorite-list] rough/"bubbly" fusion crust?

I have a small individual where the texture of the fusion crust is
completely different from any of
the others in my (admittedly small) collection. On the rounded side, it is
of typical smoothness,
but on the flat side, it feels almost like fine sandpaper and appears almost
porus. Is this more
likely to be a post-fall erosion feature, or some sort of
"bubbling"/"frothing" of the molten rock
during ablation?
