Hello list,

Does anyone on the list know how long it will take before there is any
measurable effect on the orbit of Tempel 1, after Deep Impact's copper space
bullet whacked a big hole in it? Obviously, this data would be of great
importance to those who are trying to come up with an asteroid deflecting
strategy. Seems like a simpler solution than some of the other methods
talked about like gravity tractors and space sails.... By simpler, I mean
less convoluted, since hitting a moving comet/asteroid with a small
spacecraft from millions of miles away is really a great achievement...

Regards,
CharlyV
