Dear List and Chris,

Ref. Needham, 21. Meteorology, pg. 462

"Meteorology is a word which has undergone much
change of the meaning since the time when it ws born
in ancient Greece. For example, Aristole (as in his
Meteorologica) it included the study of many phenomena
which is now know to be celestial, such as meteors and
meteorites (from which it took its name). comets, and
the Milky Way, though at the time they were classed as
belonging to the `sublunary` world. Ancient
meteorology also included much would now be called
physical geography, such as the origin and nature of
rivers, the distribution of land and sea, etc., and
also mineralogical matters such as the formation of
metals and rocks."

Sincerely, Dirk Ross..Tokyo
