Thanks for the tip Michael. I've contacted the landowner and have an appointment to go
down there tomorrow at noon to get some photos of the penetrated ice and set up some
landmarks so that when spring comes I can get in the water and see what it might be. The
landowner told me she awoke at 7am on the 15th to the find the hole with no footprints or
other marks leading to it. We had a large snowstorm here the night before. The hole was
about 18 inches in diameter but grew to around 3 feet over the next few hours. That may
be from the open water heating the surrounding ice - I'm not sure. She said that the
splash marks around the hole are 15 to 18 feet in diameter and that the water there is
only about 7 feet deep. It is a muddy bottomed, man made farm pond about 80 feet in
overall diameter. She took some pictures but doesn't have a digital camera so I'll be
bringing mine.

If I can find a winter diver interested in some work I may try to get in the water right
away.

Thanks for the tip and I'll report back when I get back tomorrow!

Best,

Gary
