Similar problem in North Wales. Mines under the Molwyn mountains were used
to store ammunition during the war.

In the '70's there was a plan to dam the Croesor valley, and they nearly got
to the stage of beginning test blasting when someone pointed out that
sympathetic detonation would probably take the top of the mountain off! No
dam.
