Hi Paul -

Thanks for the link, but contrary to your assertion,
Masse (SIU's star archaeologcal alumni) is as
selective in his use of "myth" as I am - and we use
different "myths" when investigating different events,
and there is little point in you trying to muddy the
waters.

Sometimes one can use "myth" to try and locate an area
for field investigations. Other times, after one has
found physical evidence, one may examine the "myth"
record to see if it preserves memories of what
occurred. In any case, physical evidence take
priority.

My take on Hibben's observations is thus. Fairbanks
was founded because the flow of the river there was
constrained to allow riverboat passage. This
bottleneck appears to have been one location where
mega-fauna remains accumulated after the holocene
start impacts. Searches down other Alaskan rivers MAY
reveal similar accumulations of remains.

As far as the point from the big cat goes, the cat was
under 30 feet of overlaying (marine?) deposit. It is
likely that the cat survived the spear attack, and
wandered off. Apologies to Thronton, but looking for a
near surface kill site nearby was a fool's errand from
the start.

If you find a good link on the Sakhalinda crater, be
sure to share it with us.
