Hi, Mike and all,
 
If it was "caused by upwelling of warmer water in the lake", wouldn't that cause spots, rather than circles?

Why isn't the ice in the centre melting?
 
I suspect a clandestine Russian speed-skating training camp. They stop at nothing for gold!
