As Daiid Vann put it earlier in his post. . Magnets don't always kill meteorites.
For what it's worth, Tony Irving says to break a small piece off and check that for magnetism.

So, you had better use a lunaite to embarass "newbies" with their magnets. And keep in mind that hunting for meteorites isn't a very complicated business. Hell, you can teach dogs to do it.
