Hello everyone,

This is my first time posting to the list. I'm an ethnobotany
(formerly geology) student with a taste for meteorites.

I've just returned from the showing of the possible Crawford County,
Ohio pallasite at the Lowe-Volk Park Nature Center in Crestline, Ohio.
I had a good look at the main mass and a couple of small slices, and I
don't think it's a meteorite.

The main mass was very irregular in shape and rusty. I didn't see
anything that looked like olivine; instead, there were many angular
fragments of greenish-white and gray material. Some of this material
was highly vesicular, and resembled scoria. Some "olivine" was pointed
out to me, but this looked like a chunk of brownish glass. The two
slices were also suspicious. Neither had any silicate that I could see
(though that's not incriminating), and both had obvious vesicles.

One of the headlines I saw said "Meteorite Confirmed", and others
didn't suggest that there was any doubt about the pallasite
identification. Apparently samples have been submitted for analysis,
but no results yet.

Here are some pictures of the main mass and slices: http://photobucket.com/crawf

Best regards,
James
