Another chapter of this story...

A well-known Chinese amateur meteorite enthusiast ('Rex' / ???) believes he
has found a carbonaceous chondrite (if I got the machine-translated text correctly)

Dr. Davidson,
Thank you for your kind reply to the list concerning this event.

My personal take is that the photo of the meteorite is real although it is unknown whether it is related to this reported event or not;. or perhaps something in the trash dump exploded? The crater photo reminds me of the Latvia faked crater although this may be that of an explosive device since the military were photographed with the "crater" and the "crater" appears to be not staged.. Another unfriendly feeling is the comment in the news reports about the fall of the regime in China related to meteorite falls. This in the Chinese context of reporting smells like a faked story.

 Best Regards,

 Hi Listees

Here is the vote of the Scottish jury - not real. If a meteorite was reported to have fallen on the 31st July/1st August then the "crater" on the TV report is not related to any fall. It looks like a hole that was dug several weeks ago and left. The rocks, soil and the litter are just not freshly exposed. Sorry, I know it has almost become axiomatic to call everything coming out of China a fake, but this must surely be!

 Hoots mon!
