Hi Bill,

This painting by Poyet does not represent a meteorite fall but a
lightning strike (in Fench "?clair"), more precisely a globe lighting
("?clair en boule".
The word "trajet du m?t?ore" (in the figure caption) literary means
"path of the meteor".
Though, in French, "meteore" does not designate a meteorite but a
meteor (meteoric phenomenon, such as rain, hail, gale, thunder,
lightning....)

But you are also free to collect paintings of terrestrial meteoric
(not meteoritic) phanomena of course....

A happy New-Year to all the List with a lots of meteor(ites) of any
kind to fall into your yards...
