One thing many forget (or ignore) is that meteorites found of federal land
here in the U.S. cannot be used for commercial purposes (sold). Private
land owners have a history of trying to regain possession of meteorites
found on their land if an agreement wasn't in place before the hunt. I
tried to gain access to a ranch to chase down a suspected large meteorite
and the owner wasn't interested in letting strangers freely roam about his
property. His reason is that he no longer trusts anybody and that people
these days disappoint him constantly.

Trading of meteorites found on public land is still alright for the time
being,
