[meteorite-list] In regards to NWA 10495

I think there is an unnecessary amount of hostility being displayed to a museum curator over the claim of the "World's Largest Lunar", which is essentially a marketing factoid anyhow. Honestly I did not find her statements to be as aggressive or accusatory as they have been painted to be.

Barbra Barrett stated: "I?m writing now because I have been honored to curate the main mass of NWA 10495, which weighs 12.120 kg."

Given what is said above, the mass is likely right across the building from Barbra's office. It seems to me that the thing which would settle this once and for all would be for the curator to take a moment out of her busy schedule, weigh the main mass of NWA 10495, photograph this process thoroughly, and have this information forwarded for publication in the metbull so it can be made official.

That being said, nobody is arguing over what the world's largest Eucrite is, or the world's largest Martian is, etc. because nobody is making it a point to market their specimen under those pretenses. My point being, which is the largest lunar really doesn't matter to the science of meteorites, or the meteorite world in general, only to those who feel they want to sell under that claim.

No matter which is the largest, nothing changes the fact that NWA 5000 is a gorgeous meteorite, that people should be lucky to own a specimen of. I doubt anyone would seriously go about demanding a refund from either of the Hupe's were NWA 10495 proven to be larger. NWA 5000 is still a rare beauty...
