Meteorite researchers can make their own and better
topographic maps of their search / study areas in parts
of Alaska using GIS software such as Global Mapper and
GRASS (Geographic Resources Analysis Support System)
using newly available digital elevation models (DEMs).

Other states have LiDAR and other DEMs from which
custom made topographic and relief maps can be
made using the above software. For example, Louisiana
has complete, downloadable LiDAR DEMs and raw

LiDAR data that can be downloaded and made into
custom maps. Go see http://atlas.lsu.edu and
http://atlas.lsu.edu/rasterdown.htm .
