Re: Ask Mickey Mouse for a donation - nah, coax the mouse to ante up because he'll have more cheese

hi-

forgive me, but i'm compelled to point out that as someone who works on and
off for projects involving disney, as well as for other entertainment
conglomerates, your approach is incorrect. the likelihood of eisner seeing
your letters or caring about a trickling of such letters is less than
minuscule. should you truly wish to mount such a campaign (and based on
your emails i suspect you are) i strongly recommend the following:

enlist the support of respected academicians who are already involved in
asteroid tracking activities, and particularly those whose affiliations
need only to be whispered to captivate and who have been the subject of
positive media coverage previously. provide them with a little media
training so that each and every expert always indicates that we are all
imperiled by the lack of funding available for necessary NEO research in
whatever interview(s) they do. plant the story with the local media for
each respective expert, then hit the syndicates and the national media--if
they haven't hit you already; if done correctly, i promise the house will
rock.

please note, disney will have already done much of the work for you.
obviously "fear" will fuel the majority of their marketing campaign and
their pr staff will be contacting many of the individuals you wish to
enlist. strike that. i GUARANTEE that disney has already lined up several
such experts who have ALREADY done interviews (for magazines that require a
three-month lead time).

i think it will occur to disney that it would be smart of disney to
announce its funding of NEO research not because of any selfless,
humanitarian act, but because disney's allocation of funds for such an
endeavor will enhance "armageddon's" profit as a result of focusing
society's concerns over such a cataclysmic event.
if disney doesn't announce funding for the search of NEOs, then make a
broad pitch...better still, have such experts make the pitch to disney and
others in a co-executed letter which is simultaneously serviced to national
electronic media, news syndicates, and elected officials by a seasoned pr
pro.

by the way, you may not even need disney; even the federal government may
be compelled to ante up as a result of the orchestrated cries of experts
urgently requiring funds--as well as constituencies screaming for
protection. (kindofa protection racket, isn't it?)

and in "by the way...the sequel," don't forget dreamworks' "deep impact,"
(which spielberg executive produced and for which gene shoemacher
consulted). and there will be a deep impact in your future before
armageddon.

so, victor, if you really are as obsessed about this as you seem, we won't
be hearing from you for a long time because you're going to be BUSY.
(seriously, i think you can sit on the sidelines and most of what i've
outlined will happen on its own accord--the media will zero in on the
terror of it all...but a nudge from you in the solicitation of funding
won't hurt.)

good luck.
