Re: (meteorobs) Fwd: Have Meteorite, Now Looking for the Fireball

Hi,

Great information! Mind if I ask the source for this stuff? I'd like to know
some history for Colorado and Utah.

Cheers,

Bo,
I just went thru my FIDAC News reports of various fireballs reported to them
from Jan 1993 thru 1997. Based on the reported magnitude, general location of
the report made, lack of terminal bursts and relatively slow speeds, and
apparently not part of a cometary meteor shower, the following are some
fireballs that might be of interest to you. I didn't take the time to figure
out which direction they were traveling all that closely. You will have to
pick out the possibilities yourself.

1)  Sept 12, 1994 at 20h 22 UT - Magnitude -14; Tempe, Arizona;  Begin: RA
170deg,  Dec +43
End: RA 158 deg, Dec +02

2) Sept 9, 1994 at 13h15m UT - Loud Boom; magnitude not given, but obviously
over -10; fireball visible from bakersfield, calif and Reno, Nevada. lasted
for about 30 seconds.

3) March 7, 1994 at 1h 22 UT magnitude -12 from phoenix, arizona. Fragmented
into 3 pieces.

4) jan 19, 1994 at 6h30 UT; Magnitude -12; from Chico, Calif; fragmented into
several pieces.

5) Jan 12, 1994 at 6h30; magnitude -12; from Alameda, Calif;

6) Apr 22, 1993 at 2h 34 UT from San Diego, Calif; magnitude -8 or brighter
(near sunset);

7) march 3, 1993 over San Francisco, Ca;

8) Dec 13, 1992 over San Diego, Ca; -15 magnitude; Witnessed by me; Sonic
boom heard; Rough guess that a meteorite probably landed somewhere in the
vicinity of Mt. Palomar.

9) Oct 4, 1997 at 8h30 UT over Grapevine, Calif; -14 magniutde;  4 pieces.

10)  June 17, 1997 at 4h15 UT over Laguna Beach, Calif. -14 magnitude;
Begin: RA 196deg, Dec +19; End: RA 211 deg, Dec -56

11) June 24, 1997 at 2h10 UT over El Portal, Calif; 30 second duration

12) Jul 8, 1997 at 10h 10UT over Descanso, Calif. -12 magnitude. Begin: RA
301deg, Dec =05; End: RA 307deg, Dec +11

13) april 15, 1996 at 12h11 UT over Santa Cruz, Calif. -12 magnitude. Begin
RA 213deg Dec +25; End: RA 316deg, Dec +25

14) Dec 27, 1994 at about 20h17m UT. Seen from Redding and San Francisco,
Calif to Palm Springs/Riverside, Calif area. From Palm Springs it was
traveling north. many people insisted that it landed very close to them :o).
Sonic booms heard 30 to 40 miles east of Bishop, Calif.

15) Dec 27, 1994 at about 4h15m UT over CAmpbell, Calif. -10 magnitude; 2
pieces, traveling very slow and lasting 7 seconds.

Well, that's all I can find in FIDACs publication during that period. No
doubt there were other fireballs seen during then, but these are the one's
that got submitted to IMO. I hope this helps some?
