Unconfirmed-Explosion Hits Australia, Believed To Be Meteor(s)...06/20/99
by Mitch Battros (ECTV)

Just in - A report from one of our internet viewers in Australia reported
breaking news of an explosion possibly due to meteors. It appears to have crashed
into the earth. The report suggest there may have been more than one meteor
involved.

If you have information on this story, please send in ASAP.

The Report

Hi Mitch,
A huge (something) perhaps a meteorite exploded above the Northern Territory,
Australia on Friday 18 June 1999. Our local newspaper featured a front page
story this Sunday. Locals say that it 'boomed' like an atomic bomb and that earth
tremors were felt afterwards. 'It was this incredible blue and white flashing
light that lit up the whole town. It was like this huge flashing police light.
About four minutes later there was a series of very loud booms and then earth
tremors. The whole town was running about.

"The dogs were going berserk' said Jim Butler, a local resident.. The meteorite
struck at about 9.30 pm local time near to an aboriginal community called
Lajamanu.

I would be interested in further information about this event, as it resembles
fire balls that have been reported in Western Australia.

I live in Darwin - Northern Territory, which is about 650 km away from the site.
Let me know if you need further contact information.

Cheers
Mella M.
