Hello Dean, Ron, and List !

NORTON O.R. (1998) RFS II, p. 193:
"CI carbonaceous chondrites ... contain the highest percentage of water
- 20 percent - of any carbonaceous meteorite. When heated in a closed
container, the water is easily driven off and condenses on the side of
the enclosing vessel."

BURKE J.G. (1986) Cosmic Debris, Meteorites in History, pp. 167-168:

Berzelius reported his analysis of the Alais [CI] meteorite in 1833.
Destructive distillation yielded a blackish substance, indigenous
water, carbon dioxide gas, a soluble salt containing ammonia, and a
blackish-brown sublimate, which Berzelius confessed was unknown
to him.

Best wishes,

Bernd
