[meteorite-list] Desert Varnish Question

I have seen desert varnished stones from the Mojave and in those instances
the varnish only covers the upper surface, the lower surface is weathered
from being buried, With meteorites from NWA such as Oum Rokba the varnish
covers the whole stone. Any theories or explanations? It is also
interesting that contraction lines in the fusion crust are still visible, to
what extent is the original fusion crust present?
