Hi Dave Freeman and List:

Here is a brief thread.

The Great Lakes are Great..... and they are Lakes. However, there is a
large circular
feature shared by Michigan and Wisconsin that shows up on topographic
maps. We have
inquired on this before to an impact geologist and have been assured
that it is a natural
feature, with no impact implicated. It has been known for a long time,
but we have forgotten its name.

The Finger Lakes, as we all know, were simply named after the famous
gesture given
by New Yorkers..... :):)
