<P>Hello, My feelings are; this is just one of the many injustices against us. How many natural wonders in the U.S. are privately owned? Would our government now days let us americans own something we found? NO, maybe if we found it on land we already owned. But there is probably a law against making money off it. I asked BLM if a person could stake a claim on a strewn field and they said NO, it is not a mineral that you could stake a claim on, Barringer did! I don't know, but I don't like it!<BR>Thanks, Tom</P></DIV>

<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>Hi Steve,
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>From the tone of your post, I take it your previous arrangement with
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>the Barengers (to allow you to hunt CDs on the property, provided they
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>all go to an institution - was it UCLA? - and be scientifically recorded and
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>studied, and that you could not deal in CDs from ANY source for a 5 year
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>period....or SOMETHING like that) is no longer in effect? Did they pull some
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>shenanigans on you? It seamed you donated a LOT of time and effort
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>there.....
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>Your opinion is it should be a national park.... sounds ok to me - I
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>am still ticked that they are allowed to CONTINUE to hold possession
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>even though grampa got the damned place under false pretenses by
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>misapplication of the mining laws. (many of the mining laws, even
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>today, suck mightily). So, a national part sounds FAR more appropriate
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>today. They smelted down countless TONS of CD and now act like
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>meteorite collectors, who actually act as preservers of this material,
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>are the bad guys.....I have no fond feelings for these people at all
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>(could you tell?) either.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>Anyway, tell us the outcome of your previous arrangement with them
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>that involved so much of your donated time and energy. Sounds like they
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>did it to you....
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>Best wishes, Michael

<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; "Meteor Crater" ?
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; Why the managers there would consider us a band of
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; thieves. They do everything as it is to stymie legit
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; scientific collections regulated by scientific
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; institutions, (I have a long story to tell in this
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; regard) so you think that they would allow us private
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; meteorite collectors to have a "meeting" there?
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; Just the mere mention of "Nininger" brings a scowl
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; from the managers-- they consider him a thief, and I
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; even heard as much said in one tour given by one of
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; their tour guides-- yet Harvey Nininger did more to
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; reveal the true nature of the impact than anyone in
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; his day... after all, his research revealed the
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; presence of metallic spheroids, the product of the
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; impactors's vaporization as predicted by Dr. Moulton.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; And this was opposed by Barringer for the reason that
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; he believed that the impactor was still a mining
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; resource to be had beneath the south rim of the
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; crater.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; There is no meteorite there, and the only "mining"
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; that occurs is at the visitor center.... the entrance
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; fees are quite high, you know.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; My honest opinion... the crater should have been
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; declared a National Monument and made part of the Park
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; Service...
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; That is my opinion.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; (And I am sure that if Nininger were here today, he
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; would agree).
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; But as for meeting there, I think the closest they
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; would allow is at the I-40 offramp on State highway
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; propterty, but not State land controlled by Bar-T-Bar,
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; aka Meteor Crater Enterprises (And that includes the
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>&gt; pitiful remains of the old Nininger Museum)
