Mark,
Since I live in Florida, I take special interest in any Fl. meteorites.
When bolide type sightings occur in the area, Elgin Air Force Base
(Fort Waldon Beach) is asked to report.
http://www.textfiles.com/ufo/UFOBBS/1000/1356.ufo
Thus, that area is often associated with sightings and ufo reports, but
I know of no meteorite found there.
In 1983 (and about 20 miles east ) an 11.3 kg H5 meteorite was found
at Grayton Beach.
Perhaps this is what your friend was referring.
for more info see David Weir's site and search 'Grayton'

Ken Newton
