Often David even did that himself. He put the meteorite specimens on his
invoice(s) and drew the silhouette of these pieces with a pencil so that
you had a (vague) idea what size and shape they were.


Same here ;-)

I still have a few of these "scraps of paper" which should help me figure
out size and shape (along with the respective exchange rate) - usually
directly on David's invoices.
