Hello Kevin,

  You may have already received an answer(s) to your
question, but I'm prety sure the movie you're asking
about is "Smilla's Sense of Snow". I've rented it
before and it WAS in English. That opening scene is a
great one, and the movie overall is OK. And it doesn't
hurt that Julia Ormond is in it either! ;-)
