Dear Gaeten and List of those interested in Impact Research,
I will gladly set up a mailing list and maintain Excel database for those that want to report potential impact features.
This list will record the first potential finder, date, coords and comments (Please note if you want something kept "CONFIDENTIAL" from the public group list, TELL ME). Please report Degs, Min. Sec LAT and Degs, Min., Sec., LON from the center of the feature. If possible use the measuring tool provided by Google and others to approximate a diameter.
It will be a closed list and those that wish to be included please contact me. I will invite two or more professional Impact Reasearchers (friends of mine) to the list for professtional advice.
Yes, I suggest that IF you are interested in Impact Research that you check out the IFSG (Impact Field Studies Group).
Data on the database will be available only to group members with the exception of "Classified" data. Remember that the impact site that you may find may have economic and certainly have scientific value; this is the reason that data will maintained confidential until filed with the University of New Brunswick, Canada
Thank you to those that have shown interested in this study. Please confim if you wish to be added to the above described Database and discussion group. Sincerely, Dirk Ross...Tokyo.

  Hello Stefan and all...

That's a pretty neat structure, altough I don't see it mentionned anywhere in different databases that I know about impact structures.

It would be interesting to talk to a geologist in the Nicaragua region to see if it has been studied yet! All we need to find is some shattercones outcrops, impactites or shocked quartz and Bingo! we have a new astrobleme! hehe ;)

Cheers!

  2006/4/30, Stefan Brandes <brandes_at_gmx.at >: Hi list,

has anybody heard about an impact crater in Nicaragua at coordinates :
13?21' N / 85? 57' W
It?s about 12km in diameter and the town of Las Praderas lies directly in
the center.
It?s very good to see in Google Earth.
As far as I know it?s definitely no volcano.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Stefan
