Hi Greg,

There is no double standard that applies to you and nobody else!

The last time I checked the meteorite classification is a scientific process. This purely scientific process does indeed have rules in place so that we can learn about new Meteorites in a logical manner. Not one based on emotional decisions. I think the proper etiquette for a fellow IMCA member is to:

First: Wait for the meteorite to first be provisional before you announce it

Secondly: Release the scientific data to the scientific community at large so they can examine the data

Third: Announce any possible pairings if any have been indicated and cross checked, mentioning in a clearly detailed manner why and how the two stones may be possibly paired. Also you should give time for the scientific community to confirm or prove wrong your possible pairing.

Fourth: Once the new meteorite is official, then carefully consider making a claim that can have a substantial impact on other IMCA members.

The last one is just a matter of common courtesy and professionalism
I think Jumping the whole scientific process and skipping right to the end, is indeed breaking the rules.

But that's just my 2 cents

John Higgins

wait a minute before you claim I am breaking rules... this was told to me by TONY IRVING after he tested it. He also tested NWA 2999.
Feel free to ask Tony.
