Re: Micrometeorites

Glenn,
I tried the roof gutter collection method a few years back and found
that alot of 'junk' settles on a roof between rains.(also found that the
small rocks that cover asphalt roof tiles are attracted to a magnet)
I found the best way to increase your chances of getting an actual
micro-meteorite was to put a CLEAN container out WHILE it is raining and
retrive it before or soon after the rain stops.(the container should be
up off the ground in an open area so that the rain falls directly into
the container-NO SPLASH IN )
After you collect the water you cover the top with a paper coffee
filter an let the water evaporate.
You can also just pour the water though the coffee filter with about
the same results (let the filter dry with another filter sitting on top)
Then search with a magnet.

If you follow this method and find something, the chances are very good
that it IS a micro-meteorite.
  Good Luck,
Doug
