Re: deterioration of meteorites

We have discussed this subject before on this list. Perhaps you can find
it in the archives. From my experience, I have had serious problems with
only a couple of specimens, a slice of Brahin that totally
self-destructed and some rusting on a Bondoc specimen. Others informed
me that they had seen some Brahins that were unstable and some other
masses that were completely stable! I have had a very stable slice of
Brenham for 4 years and have heard of stable vs. unstable sections of
Sikhote Alin among other irons. I believe this stability difference in
separate masses of the same meteorite to be a common phenomenon. Using
oil, dessicants, and air-tight storage seems to be prudent. And don't
handle your Orgueil!
