Re: Philanthropic instead of ego-based marketing ideas would be welcome

Erich, I am a little confused about your comments. Do you mean to bash people
who post ads as being bad or people who sell meteorites for more than you do? I
am just curious because I do post ads on this list, I do not take advantage of
the list, I have only posted about 4 ads in several months. I will continue to
do so since the little list war we had about it ended with the vast majority
giving consent to post limited ads on the list. If it is about people charging
higher prices than you I do not really get the point of that. If dealers must
buy from other dealers, it stands to reason that some will be forced to charge
more. My prices are often somewhat higher than other dealers since I am a small
dealer/collector. I however am able to send people orders as low as 2 or 3
dollars and respond to their requests within hours not months like some larger
dealers on this list. If a dealer wishes to charge a higher price than others,
that is his choice and right to do so, the buyer is solely responsible for
doing their homework and finding the best price and weighing the difference
with the level of service, shipping cost and time (from Europe for example)
etc. I have tried several times to buy from unnamed European dealers (not the
Labennes) to save a few dollars only to be waiting weeks for response and after
a month of receiving confirmation for an order placed that it had been shipped,
I found out that the order had never even been processed only after calling the
credit card company to see if I had been charged! People must weigh these
things to decide if paying a little more is worth the weeks of hassle.
If this is solely a personal attack on a certain dealer which I know it
is, why don't we just tell the whole story which includes neat little parts
involving the police at the show several times. Otherwise I think it would
benefit everyone to leave his or her personal deals out of the list.
As far as the spirit of giving, I just got off of the phone with the teacher of
a science department of a school here in Tucson where I made arrangements to
donate about $500 worth of meteorites to the school! Those of you who know me
know that I have little money to do this but I want to give children the chance
to hold meteorites, not just see them in a museum! If we are going to try to be
philanthropists, lets give our meteorites to schools so kids can get
interested.
I must follow the lead and post my own special, I will offer to anyone on this
list Sikhote-Alin and Tunguska stamps for only $10.00 each in mint condition or
$7 each in canceled condition. I have found a few and can offer them cheaper.
Thanks
