Dresden meteorite collection

Dear List,

I want to draw your attention on a recently published catalogue:

Thalheim, K. (1997):
Katalog der Meteoriten am Staatlichen Museum für Mineralogie und
Geologie zu Dresden.
Schriften des Staatlichen Museums für Mineralogie und Geologie zu
Dresden 7, 92 S. ISBN 3-91006-17-5

The catalogue is divided in two parts. The first part contains a history
of the Dresden meteorite collection from 1581 to 1997. In 44 pages
Thalheim gives a survey on the historical development of the collection.
Some repros with details of important older catalogues or handwritten
meteorite-lists are added. The second part is presenting in 43 pages the
data’s of every meteorite of the Dresden museum collection in a unusual
form. Every data set is pictured by a high-quality colour print. The
collection is including unique samples like the Nenntmansdorf Iron. A
detailed index and literature-list is added.
Except of some misprints (in 1791 even Chladni didn’t know anything
about meteorites, (misprint for 1797? see page 8 )) the book is a
recomendable high quality product.
Unfortunately the reader is missing some detailed information on the
lusatian tektites from Saxony, which could have been added thematically
also to the catalogue.

For more detailed information please contact:

In order to avoid a pc-discussion in advance (for readers in overseas):
The Staatliches Museum für Mineralogie und Geologie is a non-profit
organisation for research and education. My person doesn´t earn any
mark, schilling, franc etc. from this catalogue.

Best wishes
Wolfgang
