I found some information about the toxicity of cadmium, and it
is not good news:

http://www.greenpeaceusa.org/reports/toxics/lead/apen1.htm

Cadmium is indeed a toxic material, and its effects are similar to
lead poisoning. Studies have linked cadmium to respiratory cancer.
Exposure to cadmium is also known to cause problems with pregnancies,
such as premature birth, spontaneous abortion and birth defects. Also,
cadmium poisoning is known to cause behaviorial problems and learning
disabilities in small children. Cadmium can be absorbed into the human
body orally, by inhalation or by skin contact. Cadmium is particularly
dangerous if it is incinerated and the the resulting gases and fumes are
inhaled.

Folks, be very careful if you have a piece of the Emerald Meteorite -
it contains a very serious toxin. Please do not store it in your house anywhere
near yourself or your family, and do not handle the material directly.
To dispose of it correctly, contact your nearest EPA office. Do not throw
it away in the trash, as this can only expose more people to the toxin.
